A tragic incident has struck as Dozie and Joan Okoye, a newlywed couple who recently tied the knot on February 22, 2025, lost their lives in the gas explosion on Otedola Bridge, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The couple had just begun their journey as husband and wife when fate dealt a cruel blow. According to reports, they were on their way home when their phone lines suddenly became unreachable, sparking concern among family and friends.
After a desperate search that led their loved ones to the Burns Center in Gbagada and Yaba Mortuary, their worst fears were confirmed—their charred remains were discovered on Wednesday evening.
The only way they were identified was through their car registration number, found among the burnt wreckage. The fire was so intense that the victims were burned beyond recognition.
This heartbreaking event has once again highlighted the dangers of tanker explosions on Nigerian roads, a recurring disaster that has claimed countless innocent lives over the years. Many are calling for stricter safety measures and better regulations to prevent such tragedies from happening again.
As the nation mourns this devastating loss, social media has been flooded with messages of grief and condolences. It is truly painful to see a young couple’s promising future wiped away in an instant.
Rest in Peace, Dozie and Joan
Our thoughts and prayers are with their families, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. May their souls rest in peace.
This is a wake-up call for authorities to take urgent action in ensuring that our roads are safer, so no more lives are lost in such a horrifying manner.
