Feyisayo Ogedengbe, the auxiliary nurse who administered treatment to the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely recognized as Mohbad, has shared details of his final hours. According to her testimony at the Coroner’s Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, before Justice C.A. Shotobi, Mohbad experienced a reaction and began vomiting shortly after receiving a tetanus injection.
Ogedengbe stated that she had stepped out to procure additional medical supplies when she was informed that Mohbad had started convulsing.
What Happened Before Mohbad’s Death?
The nurse explained that after administering the tetanus shot, Mohbad developed goosebumps—a reaction his wife, Omowunmi, reportedly described as his usual response to injections.
She recounted that on September 12, 2024, she was contacted by Ayobami Sodiq (Spending) to treat the singer. Upon arriving at his Lekki residence around 2:30 pm, she observed a swollen cut on his right hand.
During treatment, she decided to inject 4ml of paracetamol diluted with 1ml of water instead of diclofenac, as she had confirmed that Mohbad had an ulcer. Additionally, she administered a slow 10ml dose of ceftriaxone to combat a bacterial infection.
However, shortly after receiving the ceftriaxone, Mohbad began to feel discomfort and got up to vomit.
“After vomiting in the toilet, he returned to the room and sat on the floor, where I noticed goosebumps on his body. I showed his wife, and she said it was a normal reaction for him,” Ogedengbe testified.
She stated that at the time of the injection, there were four individuals present in the room, including Mohbad, Omowunmi, and Ayobami.
Rushed Efforts to Save Mohbad
Following the reaction, Omowunmi reportedly took Mohbad to the bathroom and poured water on his head in an attempt to relieve him.
Realizing the severity of the situation, Ogedengbe and Ayobami hurried to a pharmacy to get medication for the allergic reaction. However, they faced delays at the first pharmacy before eventually obtaining hydrocortisone injection and normal saline infusion from another store.
“When we returned, we found Mohbad outside the house, and preparations were being made to take him to the hospital,” she narrated.
Due to heavy traffic and a lack of available vehicles, Mohbad was transported to the hospital on a motorcycle. Sadly, he was declared dead on arrival by the medical team.
Ogedengbe recalled that upon reaching the hospital, medical personnel hesitated to treat him, leading to some confusion. Later that evening, his body was taken back home around 8 pm, while others proceeded to the Orchid Lekki Police Station to obtain a death certificate. The police then directed them to Ajiwe Police Station in Ajah for further documentation.
Legal Proceedings and Acquittals
Following cross-examination by Dr. Wahab Shittu, SAN (counsel for Mohbad’s family), Kabir Akingbolu (representing Omowunmi), and the state’s legal representatives, the court adjourned the case to Friday, March 21, 2024, for further hearing.
Earlier in February 2025, the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions announced that Ogedengbe and Ayobami Sodiq would face charges for reckless and negligent acts under Section 251 (e) of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.
Meanwhile, the court acquitted popular musician Abdulazeez Fashola (Naira Marley), along with music promoter Samson Balogun (Sam Larry), Owodunni Ibrahim (Primeboy), and Mohbad’s former manager, Opere Babatunde.
